Jessica and I had the chance to steal away to the beach last weekend for a few days of R&R. And when I say beach, I mean a real beach — in Florida. We went to Sanibel Island, which made for quite possibly the best shelling (if you’re not familiar with the term shelling, it’s defined as the practice of gathering seashells in order to collect dust later in one’s dwelling and eventually wind up in a garage sale) either one of us has experienced. There were seashells everywhere. The whole beach was seashells.

There’s something pretty awesome about being near the ocean — seeing it for the first time in a long time, rolling up your linen pants, and then sticking your feet right in…

The Grandmothers and the Importance of Family at Your Wedding

A wedding is one of those rare occasions when family come from far and wide to be together. And frankly, you never know when that’s going to happen again. Lately, I’ve enjoyed pulling the grandmothers aside and making their individual portraits. It doesn’t take very long — no more than a minute or two — and I do it because it’s a way to preserve the history of your family. And because I wish I had taken more photos of my grandparents.

Butterflies at Stacey and Nigel’s Wedding

I love this image from Stacey and Nigel’s wedding at the Ladybird Johnson Wildflower Center that I shot back in October. I remember driving to the Wildflower Center that afternoon and seeing literally thousands of butterflies in the air all along the way. And when I finally arrived, they were dancing all over the fields of purple wildflowers. It was magical. (Captured on Fuji Pro 400H film)

New Year, New Look

Happy New Year!

If you’re reading this, you’ve probably noticed by now that my web site kinda sorta has a new look. And if you’ve bookmarked certain pages (blog postings, for instance), you probably won’t find them in their old comfy spot. But rest assured, it’s all still here… somewhere.

Change is a good thing! Embrace it! There may be some slight tweaks as I add more content, so if you happen to see any loose screws or warped boards in the process, let me know!

Paulette’s wedding day bridal portrait (and something blue)

As the new year creeps up, I’ve been going through all of the images that I shot in 2009. This bridal portrait comes from Paulette and Doug’s wedding that I second shot with my friend Sherry of Sherry Hammonds Photography back in September.

Their wedding ceremony was at St. Austin’s Catholic Church and their reception was held at the fabulous Green Pastures — I can’t wait to shoot there again! Green Pastures is great little gem of a venue!
