Travel: Common Market, Charlotte, NC

Common Market is in the South End district of Charlotte, North Carolina.  It’s the coolest little neighborhood watering hole right behind my brother Kevin’s company’s (Asterisk Creative) office.  Over the 4th of July weekend, we spent an afternoon there tossing back pints of draft Smutty Nose Hamani Ale (funny name, but seriously good beer!) and chatting with Kevin and his friends. Good times!

A wedding at The Winfield Inn in Kyle, TX

These images were from Molly and Matt’s May wedding at The Winfield Inn, in Kyle, Texas.  Captured while second shooting for Sherry Hammonds of Sherry Hammonds Photography.

I really enjoyed shooting at The Winfield Inn. I think I’m going to add it to my short list of favorite Austin-area wedding venues.

High Museum of Art in Atlanta, circa 1999

It’s hard to believe I shot this image over a decade ago.  Frankly, it’s hard to believe I’m that old (breached the big “3-0” this year). When this was taken, I was a sophomore at the University of Georgia. I was enrolled in a photojournalism class (and pretty sure I wanted to be a photojournalist).

It’s funny how, even then, things were moving away from the darkroom.  We still had analog capture — I shot film (pretty sure this was Kodak T-Max 400) in my Minolta 35 mm camera — but after we processed the film, we scanned all of our images into digital format with a dedicated film scanner.

This has been one of my favorite images from my earlier days as a photographer.  And I love the fact that it’s shot on film. Should my hard drive get wiped out (and all my backups fail), I’ve still got the film — ready to be scanned and brought back to life.

Molly and Blair’s Austin Wedding

Molly and Blair were married at Good Shepherd Episcopal Church in Austin, and had their reception at The Headliner’s Club in downtown Austin.  They had a lot of fun personal touches to their wedding day, including their signature drink: Rum Punch.

As the story goes, while on a getaway to Harbour Island, Molly and Blair fell in love the Rum Punch made by a bartender on the island named Richie. Richie was gracious enough to give them the recipe, and the rest is history. Even though Richie couldn’t make it to the wedding, he was at the reception in spirit. In fact, he was the life of the party.

Here are a few images from Molly and Blair’s wedding day. To see more photos, and to order prints, you can visit their online gallery.
